Dally, if you’re still around, congratulations: on life, loves offspring, the whole damn thing! I came across your posts when I looked up beloved Roger Pryke’s life,
You will probably have forgotten me (no call to remember) but you will remember Richard Synnott (Dick) with whom I went to Melbourne and with whom I had a wonderful daughter, Emma (now Ed, with all that that entails.) I now live in UK, land of my birth, and at 83, I am doing that classic thing of old age – remembering with fondness and guilt those who helped form me and whom I have neglected. You are one. I hope you may get this and remember me with forgiveness for past neglect. Joan Dugdale.
Dear Joan,
What a thrill to hear from you. I well remember those days when Cathie and I and you and Dick had meals together so often. It was so unfair when Dick died so young. He was so talented. He could have been a successful journalist and writer. I remember too meeting up with you at Roger’s funeral. Wasn’t that extraordinary? The Catholic believers’ funeral at St Joseph’s Hunters Hill and the unbelievers’ funeral at the crematorium, which was cut short in the middle. I apologised to you for my insufferable behaviour. We were all so emotional about our situation in life in those very trying days. You will be pleased to learn that I wrote the Wikipedia entry for Roger Pryke.
I turned 88 on 4 February last. Can’t believe I am still here!! My email is dallymessenger@mac.com. Please send me your email address. I’d love to tell you the story of my three “marriages” since CJ and more. I saw my three daughters yesterday for breakfast. They are all in their fifties! ~ Much love from me – thanks for reaching out as they say. xxxxx
